Tha AMPro ANSINator iz freeware. she may be uzed freely by anywun who
findz her usefull free uv charge for however long yu need her. she may be
freely distributed by any meanz fizical or electronic with tha following
excepshunz.
. Yu may not Sell tha AMPro ANSINator. Yu may charge a small
fee for Disks, postage ect.

Getting Statrted on Tha AMPro ANSINator -------------------------------------
=============================================================================
To run tha AMPro ANSINator type TAA3 at your DOS prompt and then press
tha Enter(Return) key. In order to run tha ANSINator yu should hav an
EGA, VGA or better monitor and 512k or more uv RAM. Yu should have all
fiylz in tha same directory and run tha program frum that directory for
best rezultz.

What yu should kno about tha ANSINator --------------------------------------
=============================================================================
. Tha ANSINator iz a utility that will help to make ANSI pikchurz faster
and eazier than any ANSI Program that I've ever seen. Az far az I kno
there iz no program uv it'z kind out there now (but what do I kno). What
she duz iz letz yu draw a pikchur in grafix mode, then she will save your
pikchur in an ANSI file.
. Tha ANSI fiylz made by tha AMPro ANSINator are fully compatible with
most other ANSI drawing utilitiez, but yu will be limited by that
program'z abilitiez. For example if yu make a 175 line ANSI with tha
ANSINator, yu can't properly load it into an ANSI editor that only does
100 line ect...
. Tha AMPro ANSINator adz a line at tha very bottom uv yer ANSI wich sayz
Tha AMPro ANSINator v3.0, and while it'z no sin to remove it, and it wudn't
tick me off or anything, I'd appreciate it if yu let it stay.
. Tha screen yu werk with defaults to 350 pixelz tall by 320 pixelz wide.
Yu can scange this in your TAA3.CFG config file. If yu don't like your
cursor being able to go off the bottom of the screen set screen hite to
200. Since ANSIs can be a maximum uv 80 columz wide anyway yu may wish
to set tha screen width to 80 in your config file so that it iz more like
werking with tha old ANSINator.
. If yu leave your config file alone and stay with a screen hite uv 350
pixelz, yu can scroll up and down tha screen with tha [ and ] keyz or
tha < and > keyz.
. Many commandz will yuze tha flashing selector box to pick out certain
areaz uv tha screen. Yu can moove tha selector box around tha screen
with tha number pad keyz (turn nbum lock off), and yu can resize tha
window with tha Shift-Number Pad keyz. Also yu can change tha selector
bar to Large size by pressing M and yu can change it back to regular
ANSI size by pressing A.
. I dunno if anywun cares but on tha opening screen with tha rotayting
AMPro Long yu kin change tha pitch and bank with tha P, p, B & b keyz
and yu kin change tha speed with tha I and i keyz. Tha rotating Logo
iz a build off a program dezined by Cornel Huth.

Instrucshunz ----------------------------------------------------------------

AAA........ A) - Alterabul Shaypz ........................................AAA
* This funkshun allowz yu to draw shapes on tha screen and then resize
and move them until they are where yu want them.
. Connecting Lines - Yu will hav a flashing cursur. Uze tha cursur
keyz to move and yu will notice tha line will move with yu. Yu
can press + or - to chang colorz. Press enter when your line is
done and the start on the next line. Press Esc when yu are
completely finnished.
. Curve - Uze tha cursor keyz to move tha circle arround. Uze + and -
to change tha circulz color. Uze tha < key to decrease tha radius uv
tha curve and > to increase it. Uze A and a to change tha Aspect Ratio
(ecentricity) uv tha circul (make it flatter or taller). (Upper case
A makes it taller, Lower case A makes it flatter). Uze E and e to
change tha endpoint, and S and s to change tha starting point so that
yu will hav an arc instead uv a circul. Uze tha Enter key when finished
or uze Esc if yu'd like to abandon tha curve yu've crafted.
. Rectangle - Uze tha cursor keyz to increase tha Hite and Width uv yer
rectangle. Uze tha Shift-Key Pad keyz to move tha entire rectangle.
Uze tha + and - keyz to change tha color. Press Enter when yer finished
with tha ractangle or press Esc if yu'd like to abandon yer rectangle.
. Block - Werkz tha same way az tha rectanglue except that it drawz a
filld in rectangular block.
BBB........ B) - Buffer Manager ..........................................BBB
* Uze this funkshun in conjuncshun with tha S(Selector)'s Copy into
Buffer opshun. If yu do not hav an imag in tha buffer this command
will not werk.
. Put From Buffer - Will place whatever iz in yer grafix buffer onto tha
screen uzing yer current cursor coordinitz az tha Upper Left edge.
. Fill Screen frum Buffer - This opshun will fill tha entire screen
with tha image that iz in yer buffer. This opshun iz very useful
for making backgroundz.
. Invert frum Buffer - Uze this funkshun to copy whatz in yer buffer
onto tha screen either upside down or a mirror imag left to rite.
. Mix frum Buffer - Uze this funkshun to blend whatz in yer buffer
with whatz on tha screen. If you do not understand tha mechanix
uv OR AND and XOR blending don't wurry about it; just experiment
with it and see whut you like.
. Flush Buffer - Uze this to empty out tha grafix buffer when yer not
uzing it. Having an image in tha grafix buffer takes up valuable
memory so it iz a good idea to flush tha buffer when yer not uzing it.
CCC........ C) - Cursor Manager ..........................................CCC
* Tha Cursor manager letz yu select your cursor color and dimenshunz.
It will also let yu chooze difrent cursor stylez in case yu hav trubble
seeing tha little blinking cursor.
. Cursor Color - Uze this opshun to change yer current drawing color.
a menyew will pop up. Uze tha arrow keyz to select a color then press
enter. Az a shortcut yu may uze tha + and - keyz while yu are drawing
until yu get to tha rite color.
. Cursor Width - This opshun will only werk if you hav tha flashing cursor
(cursor style 1). Uze this to giv yerself a brawd cursur or to retern
yer cursur to normal width (1).
. Cursor Hite - This opshun iz similar to tha Width opshun but instead
controllz tha cursur hite.
. Cursor Style - If you hav trubble seeing tha normal flashing cursur,
experiment with this opshun. Tha target cursur will giv you better
vizibility. Tha Pencil cursur iz cute but there iz no raparound
with it and you cannot draw all tha way to tha cornerz uv tha screen
with it. Also you cannot adjust tha width or hite with tha target
and pencil cursurz.
DDD........ D) - Dancing fool ............................................DDD
* When tha program startz, there iz no dancing fool *sigh*, but
forchunately yu kin change that. If yu press D, tha dancing fool will
appear and attempt to entertain yu, press D again to get him to vanish
(Yes tha rumorz are true, tha Dancing fool iz modeld after me)
EEE........ E) - Error Trubbleshooting ...................................EEE
* Uze this Funkshun to help yu figure out how to fix sum uv tha more
common Errorz yu may get or figyer out how to aviod them.
FFF........ F) - Fill Manager ............................................FFF
* Tha fill manager letz yu set tha condishunz uv tha P(Paint Fill)
funkshun.
. Select Fill Color - This will select tha solid filling color that will
be uzed when yu yuze tha P(Paint Fill) funkshun.
. Select Boarder Color - This opshun will select a boarder color to control
yer filling. When you select a boarder color then when you do a paint
fill tha paint will flood outward until it iz completely surrounded by
that boarder color. If you make a mistake and paint leex out all over
tha screen, then you kin uze tha Undo key and fix tha leak and try again.
. Select Filling Rewlz - Select between tha three filling rewlz. Tha
default setting iz fill with tha fill color until tha boarder color.
Tha second opshun iz to fill with a uzer defined fill pattern until
tha boarder color (define fill patternz with tha following opshun).
Tha last opshun iz to fill with tha fill color until you hit any other
color. This iz a useful opshun if you just wanna change tha color uv
a region that iz outlined by several diffrent colorz.
. Make Fill Pattern - Uze this to define yer own fill pattern. Uzer
defined fill patternz kin be up to 16 pixelz tall. Move around tha
pattern templit with tha cursur keyz. Select a color to uze by pressing
C then selecting a color frum tha menyew than pressing enter. Uze tha
space bar to place tha color on tha template. Uze tha Rsc key when
yer finished making yer pattern. This iz a handy way to make complex
patternz to fill with.
GGG........ G) - Generate Random Backgroundz .............................GGG
* This funkshun will help yu to draw colorful backgroundz. You must
specify how many uv tha objex you want and pick a color skeme.
. Starz - Drawz dotz at random locayshunz on tha screen. Good fer
making space related pikcherz.
. Bildingz - Drawz bildingz uv random hite on tha screen. Good fer
making simpul cityscapes.
. Cristulz - Drawz cristulz at randiom points on tha screen.
. Circulz - Drawz circulz at random pointz on tha screen.
. Planetz - Drawz filled in circulz at random pointz on tha screen.
Good fer making space scapes.
. Lines - Drawz lines at random placez on tha screen. Good for making
abstract backgroundz.
. Rectangulz - Drawz random rectangulz on tha screen. Makes fer a good
circitry effect.
. Ringz - Drawz ringz at random placez on tha screen. Looks kewl.
. Blox - Drawz filled in blox at random placez on tha screen.
HHH........ H) - Help ....................................................HHH
* Tha Help funcshun will giv yu a list uv commandz and instrucshunz
on their use. Tha commandz are color coded so that yu can see wich
commandz are generally uzed in tandem with wich other commandz. Tha
Load and Save funcshunz are in Dark Green. Tha Funcshunz fer drawing
shaypz are in Cyan. Tha Dancing Fool Command iz in Brown. Tha X and
Y adjustment commandz are in Gray. Tha Paint Filling commandz are in
Blu. Tha Text Commandz are in Pink. Tha Help commandz are in Yello.
Tha Drawing commandz are in Wite. All other commandz are in Brite
Green.
To get help on a funkshun press tha letter uvthat funkshun. Help
will appear on tha corresponding funkshun. Tha help iz akchually
tha TAA3.DOC file that yu kin uze wile in tha program. When tha
help on a funkshun iz displayed, yu may uze tha cursur keyz to move
up and down tha help file. Az a short cut yu can press tha letter
uv another Funkshun and jump thru tha file that way. When yer dun
with tha help, press Esc to exit.
Fer yer conveenyence you may also uze tha ? key to activate tha
help menyew.
III........ I) - Informayshun ............................................III
* This funkshun will show yu sum extra informayshun about Tha AMPro
ANSINator fer thoze uv yu that wish to kno more. Deatailz on tha
history uv Tha ANSINator kin be found here.
JJJ........ J) - Jump Factorz ............................................JJJ
* When yer program beginz, yu X and Y Jump factorz will be 1, wich meanz
that when yu press tha up cursor key, yu will go up wun pixel at a time,
and if yu press tha rite cursor, yu will go rite wun pixel at a time.
. Set X Jump Factor - Setz tha number uv pixelz you will jump across at
a time.
. Set Y Jump Factor - Setz tha number uv pixelz up n down that you will
jump at a time.
KKK......... K) - Kill Pikcher ...........................................KKK
* When yu are having no sukcess at all, and yu just wanna start over
frum scratch, uze this funkshun to give yerself a fresh screen. This
funkshun will uze tha parameterz frum your Config file to reinishulize
tha screen.
LLL......... L) - Load Pikcher ...........................................LLL
* Uze this funkshun to load back in yer saved werk. This funkshun loadz
in pikcherz that were created with Tha AMProANSINator.
. Load az Bitmap - Loadz a pikcher onto tha screen (at tha upper left
edge uv tha screen) If you want to load .ANN filez frum tha older
verzionz uv tha ANSINator, load them az Bitmaps.
. Load az Bitplane - Loadz a BitPlane image onto tha screen (at tha upper
left edge uv tha screen)
. Load az Bitmap at Cursor - Loadz a Bitmap pikcher onto tha screen and
placez tha Upper Left corner uv tha pikcher wherever yer curser iz.
This may produce an error if yer too close to tha bottom uv tha screen
for yer pikcher to fit.
. Load az Bitplane at Cursor - Loadz a Bitplane pikcher onto tha screen
and placez tha Upper Left corner uv tha pikcher wherever yer curser iz.
This may produce an error if yer too close to tha bottom uv tha screen
for yer pikcher to fit.
MMM......... M) - Modify Config File .....................................MMM
* Uze this funkshun to modify yer config file. Yer config file iz uzed
so that yu kin specify detailz about how yu want yer ANSINator seshunz
to run. Yu may also feel free to uze a regular text editor to edit tha
file TAA3.CFG insted uv this funkshun.
. Page Color - Page color determinz tha background color uv tha page
when you start up tha ANSINator or press K to kill pikcher
. Cursor Style - Cursor style letz you set wich cursor style you' like
tha ANSINator to start up with (Adjustabul, Target or Pencil).
. Startup Color - This determinz tha color uv yer cursor (drawing color)
when you start tha ANSINator.
. Menu Text Color - This will set tha text color for tha menyewz and tha
status bar n stuff.
. Menu Background Color - This will set tha background color fer tha
menyewz and tha status bar n stuff.
. Status Bar - This will determine weather tha status bar iz off or on
when tha program startz.
. ANSINator Tag - This will determine weather or not an ANSINator tag iz
appended to yer ANSI when you ANSINate it.
. Screen Width - This will determin tha width uv tha screen when you start
up. You may wish to change it to 80 since ANSI'z kin only be 80 columz
wide anyway, but I prefer to hav tha hole screen to draw on and then
clip out tha part I like fer my ANSI.
. Screen Hite - Tha screen hite startz off at 350 but since you kin only
see 200 at a time you may wish to set this to 200. When it iz set at
350 you need to uze tha [ and ] keyz to scroll up and down to werk on
more uv yer pikcher.
NNN......... N) - Non Draw Mode ..........................................NNN
* The Non Draw Mode allowz u to move yer cursor to another pozishun
without drawing. When yu hav gotten to tha point yu want to be at,
press 'N' again or press Enter, and yu will return to regular drawing
mode. If yu tern tha status bar on (F1) there will be a NDM indicator
letting yu kno when yu are in Non Draw Mode. Most uv tha funkshunz
in tha ANSINator will still werk wile in Non Draw Mode. Fer yer
conveenyence you may also press tha Ins (Insert) key to toggle non
draw mode on and off.
OOO......... O) - Operating System .......................................OOO
* This funcshun will temporarily drop yu back to tha operating system yu
are uzing so that yu kin do whatever it iz yu do there, and yer pikcher
will be kept safely in memory until yer ready for it again. Yu reenter
tha ANSINator by typing EXIT at yer operating system prompt. Yu can uze
this funcshun to drop to DOS to TYPE your ANSI to make sher it ternd out
rite after yu ANSINate it.
PPP......... P) - Paint Fill..............................................PPP
* This funkshun iz uzed to fill regionz on yer screen with a solid color
or a pattern. Uze tha F(Fill Manager) key to set tha condishun uv tha
fill yu wish to do then uze this funkshun to do tha akchual filling.
Fer yer conveenyence you may also uze tha * (asterisk) key to do a
paint fill.
QQQ......... Q) - Kwit ...................................................QQQ
* Well unforchunately yu can't stay in tha ANSINator ferever, so for
when it'z time to exit tha program, we've included this handy little
exit tha program funcshun. 8o)
RRR.......... R) - Regular Shaypz ........................................RRR
* If yu kno exacly where yu want a shape to go uze this funcshun to
put it there. If yu want to put it down and then ajust it until it'z
correct then uze tha A(Adjustabul shapes) funkshun instead. However,
if yu do make a mistake with this funkshun there iz alwayz tha Undo key.
. Circle - Specify a X and Y coordinate for a center point. Specify a
radius, a color and the ecentricity and tha circul will be plotted
for yu.
. Line - Specify tha X and Y coordinates fer both endpointz and tha color
and yer line will be drawn for you. This iz handy if you hav a line
drawing on a peece uv graf paper that you'd like to transpoze obnto tha
screen.
. Box - Specify tha X and Y coordinates uv tha upper left corner then
tha lower rite corner, then tha color and a box will be drawn for yu.
. Block - Specify tha X and Y coordinates uv tha upper left corner then
tha lower rite corner, then tha color and a filled in block will be
drawn for yu.
SSS.......... S) - Selector (Save/ANSINate)...............................SSS
* Tha most important funcshun in tha ANSINator. This iz tha key yu uze
for tha important stuff like saving yer werk and converting yer werk to
ANSI.
. Save in Bitmap Form - Savez yer pikcher in BitMap form. If you save a
pikcher with tha extenshun .ANN az a bitmap it will be compatibul with
older verzionz uv tha ANSINator. Saving a pikcher in Bitmap form will
make it eazy to make a BASIC program to call up that pikcher.
. Save in Bitplane Form - Savez yer pikcher in bitplane form. I hear tell
that this will make it eazy to call yer pikcherz up frum a C program but
since I've never done it, I can't verufy that.
. Copy Into Buffer - Copiez tha selected grafix into tha grafix buffer.
Frum there you kin uze tha B(Buffer Manipulayshunz) command to perform
all sortz uv great Buffer opshunz. This iz what yu uze if you'd like
to copy a prt uv a pikcher to another part, or if you'd like to grab
a piece uv wun pikcher and uze it az an inset on another.
. ANSINate Fast - This command will ANSINate tha selected secshun (up
to 80 columz uv it across) as fast az it can. Often there iz a
negligibul speed defrence so I'd recommend uzing ANSINate small all
tha time.
. ANSINate Small - This command will convert yer Selected grafix into
an ANSI screen (up to 80 columz across).
TTT.......... T) - Text Manager...........................................TTT
* Uze this funcshun to set up tha color and dimenshunz and such for
riting text to tha screen. Uze tha W(Rite) command to do tha akchual
riting. There iz no way to get tiny lettering or detailz into your
ANSI with this verzion uv Tha ANSINator. I will be cuming out with
a seperate program (Tha AMPro FiXINator) specifikly for detailing
ANSIz made with TAA3. It will be out sumtime next year.
. Select Text Color - Selects a color for you text.
. Select Background Color - Selects a background color for yer text.
. Select Text Hite - Select frum tha three System Font Hites 8, 14 & 16.
. Spacing Between Letterz - Select how much space (in pixelz) iz to be
between each letter. Tha default iz 0.
. Text Display Mode - Selectz how to blend tha text in. Default iz
overrite, but you kin also OR blen, AND blend and XOR blend. If you
don't kno what that meanz, don't worry about it. Wudn't hurt to
try it anyway.
UUU.......... U) - Undo ..................................................UUU
* Uze this funcshun to undo a mistake. After every command yu run, tha
ANSINator savez a backup copy uv tha screen before yu ran tha command.
To get it to undo tha command just press U. Tha U Key must be tha VERY
next key yu press, once yu ishue another command or do something else,
yu will no longer be able to undo that change. Only wun backup uv
before tha last key yu pressed iz kept.

VVV........... V) - Vyew Status ..........................................VVV
* This funcshun will allow yu to see tha current settingz uv tha program.
It will give yu a readout telling yu what tha curent cursor pozishun,
cursor color, fill pattern or color, fill boarder color, ect...
WWW........... W) - Rite .................................................WWW
* Uze this command to rite text on tha screen. Yu kin control tha size
and colorz and so on with tha T(Text Manager), then uze this command to
do tha riting. You may uze tha Cursur keyz to move around (therefore
there iz no need fer a backspace key) Press Esc when you are finished
riting.
XXX........... X) - X Coordinate .........................................XXX
* Uze this funcshun to kwickly move your cursor across tha screen.
YYY........... Y) - Y Coordinate .........................................YYY
* Uze this funcshun to kwickly move your cursor up and down tha screen.
ZZZ........... Z) - Zoom In ..............................................ZZZ
* Uze this funcshun to zoom in on yer ANSI and werk on it in enlarged
mode. Yu cannot change tha size uv tha Zoom In Selector.
Most uv tha other ANSINator funkshunz will not werk while in
Zoomed mode however sum will. Tha Non-Draw mode will still werk and
tha C will let yu select a cursor color. Uze tha cursor key on tha
numeric keypad to draw and uze tha Shift-Key Pad combinayshunz to
moove around tha Zoom screen. Fer Example Shift-Up Arrow will shift
yer Zoom screen up so yu kin werk on tha next hiyer porshun without
having to exit Zoom. Uze tha "q" key to kwit without saving yer changez
and uze tha Esc key to kwit and save changez.
F1 F1 F1...... F1) - Status Bar......................................F1 F1 F1
* This Funcshun Will turn tha Status Bar on and off. Tha status bar iz
a way uv constantly updating you on whut time it iz, whut colorz yer
yuzing and weather drawing mode iz on or off.
F2 F2 F2...... F2) - Slower Fool Slower..............................F2 F2 F2
* If tha dancing fool iz turned on, this funcshun will slow him down.
F3 F3 F3...... F3) - Faster Fool Faster..............................F3 F3 F3
* If tha dancing fool iz turned on, this funcshun will speed him up.

Helpful Hintz----------------------------------------------------------------
=============================================================================
. Tha ANSINator Convertz every 2 pixelz uv hite into wun text character.
Since two different hi intensity colorz cannot be represented in wun
space, wun uv tha hi intensity colorz will be translayted into it'z
lo intensity counterpart, this kin make yer ANSI look weerd. Two wayz
arround this are
a) Uze az little hi intensity color az possibul, and don't uze two
hi intensity colorz next to each other. If yu uze black to draw
with first, then do all your paint filling last, the blac will keep
any two high intensity colorz frum touching one another.
b) Go to 0, 0 and select a Cursor hite uv 2, and a Y Jump facter uv 2
before yu draw yer pikcher. (this maykz it a lot harder to draw)
. Try all uv tha funcshunz. If yu can't figure out what they do by reading
this document, try to figure it out by uzing them. Some uv tha more
powerful funcshunz are tha more dificult wunz to understand, and they are
wurthwile to master.
. To conserve filespace, try to hav az fyew color changez horizontally
az possibul. For instance if yu hav a background that goze
blu red blu red blu red blu red
blu red blu red blu red blu red
it will make your ANSI very large whereaz if yu hav
blu blu blu blu blu blu blu blu
red red red red red red red red
your ANSI will be much smaller.
